Ameya Tripathi
English Literature, Latin American and Iberian Cultures

I am currently a PhD candidate at Columbia University in English and Comparative Literature. I work closely with the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society and the Department for Latin American and Iberian Cultures.
My work focusses on comparative modernisms in English and Spanish literatures of the 1920s and 1930s, with interests in lyric, film, documentary and journalism and the increasing use of total war tactics. Writers I research include: George Orwell, Miguel Hernández, César Vallejo and Martha Gellhorn.
Outside of project interests: postapartheid South African literature, in particular Ivan Vladislavić; the global city and urban writing; nighttime, dreams, ruins and sleep in city writing.
