This Special Issue explores the pressures and deformations that burgeoning technologies and contemporary political and cultural norms place on the experience and meaning of reproduction. Drawn from the research of the Motherhood and Technology Working Group at Columbia University, the articles focus on the manifold technologies, broadly understood, that structure the period spanning pre-conception to the end of the first trimester—from contraception and abortion to cryogenics, genetic and ultrasonographic testing, and gestational surrogacy.
