Current Musicology, a leading journal for scholarly research on music, is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary with an open-themed conference on March 28–29, 2015 at Columbia University. The journal was founded in 1965 by graduate students at Columbia University as a semi-annual review. We publish articles and book reviews in the fields of historical musicology, ethnomusicology, music theory and analysis, and philosophy of music.
The conference will take place in Rooms 522–523, Butler Library, Columbia University, and is free and open to the public. The event will begin in the morning on Saturday, March 28, 2015, and will close on Sunday March 29, 2015, in the late afternoon.
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Georgina Born from the University of Oxford to give the conference’s keynote address on the Saturday. A roundtable discussion titled The Future of Music Studies will take place on the Sunday morning, involving Professors Kofi Agawu, Lydia Goehr, Lawrence Kramer, George Lewis, and Ingrid Monson. Over the two days, the event will feature paper presentations on a wide range of topics, from graduate students, early career scholars, and senior scholars from across Canada, Europe, and the United States. We are very pleased to welcome back founding editor Austin Clarkson, as well as former editors Professors Anthony Barone, Eleonora Beck, Murray Dineen, Peter Lefferts, Jay Rahn, and Karen Painter, who will all give paper presentations.
Like the journal, the conference is organized by a committee of graduate students from the Department of Music at Columbia University, in association with the annual Columbia Music Scholarship Conference.
