Digital spaces and technology at-large can provide new fresh earth for the growth of language vitality. In the era of the Internet search engine and social media, the vision of globalized access should broaden and deepen human interaction. But how can people be included in this thriving narrative of communication and accessibility if technology’s soils refuse to nourish their language roots? These digitally-disadvantaged language communities struggle to use technology not designed for them, and are forced to grow, as legendary poet and rapper Tupac Shakur would say, like roses through concrete, resiliently making space for themselves in digital environments. Come join Dr. Isabelle Zaugg’s Global Language Justice in the Digital Sphere class as we showcase our final projects that grapple with fostering diversity, inclusivity, and equity in digital spaces for languages around the world.
