Sarah Monks

Sarah Monks is Assistant Director of the Institute for Comparative Literature & Society, Columbia University. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in Psychology and Sociology. She has worked in higher education administration for over twenty years with ten years serving the Columbia University community.
She was a professional dancer and improvisational dance teacher for many years and participated in queer cabaret. While she still occasionally performs, her creative focus is now on collage. Her 2020 art book Artificial Respiration, created with poet Conley Lowrance, was featured in Granary Books’ TKS series. Her reading interests include embodied cognition, poetry, and counter culture.
