“It made the library a space of permission, not encouragement that pushed you in a certain direction, where you feel like people are watching you and like giving their approval, but just freedom to pursue what you want.” Marcus was featured in an article in The Guardian, an edited excerpt from Eric Klinenberg’s book Palaces for the People, on the importance of community libraries. Marcus will also deliver the Annual Lecture in Literature and Cultural Theory, “The Drama of Celebrity–Imitation,” at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, sponsored by the program in Literature and Culture Theory.
