We would like to invite you to a graduate student and young scholar workshop co-sponsored by ICLS scheduled for this coming Friday and Saturday, October 7-8, titled “Beyond Circulation: Non-Western Universalisms and Global Histories of Science.” Participants will discuss pre-circulated dissertation chapters in progress by the presenters, who are advanced PhD candidates and post-docs from several schools in the consortium. Opening and closing remarks will be given by faculty, including ICLS co-affiliated historians Anupama Rao and Marwa Elshakry. Presenters will also be sharing primary sources that their work draws upon to open up discussions of method and compare disciplinary approaches to interpreting documents and texts. As its title suggests, the workshop focuses thematically on intersections of intellectual history and history of science, and geographically on the non-Western world.

Please write Angela Giordani (amg2287@columbia.edu) if you would like to get access to the chapter drafts.
