Steven Pierce is a senior lecturer in modern African history at the University of Manchester. He has taught previously at Yale and Tulane, and has held fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies, the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, and the Centre for Global Cooperation Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen. He is the author of Farmers and State in Colonial Kano: Land Tenure and the Legal Imagination and, most recently, Moral Economies of Corruption: State Formation and Political Culture in Nigeria (Duke).
