A graduate-student and faculty workshop with Prof. Simone Pinet (Romance Studies, Cornell University).

In this workshop we will consider four different texts that make of the oral/aural a crucial component of their experience. We will read a fragment from Augustine’s Confessions, two miracles from Gonzalo de Berceo’s collection, a selection of a widely circulating romance, and contrasting poetic bilingual examples from different periods. Some secondary readings will be proposed, but the focus will be on collectively working through the primary materials.

Pre-registration is required, materials will be circulated (in the original and/or English translation) a week in advance.
