Ashis Nandy is a great postcolonial thinker and one of the foremost public intellectuals in India. His reputation as “the Frantz Fanon of our time” has reverberated across the continents and scholarly communities worldwide. A notable political psychologist, social theorist, and critic, he has produced some of the most original and important studies of postcolonial societies over the past four decades. Nandy is also a prolific writer and newspaper columnist as well as a feisty public speaker (New Yorker).
Nandy’s many books include The Intimate Enemy; Alternative Sciences; The Illegitimacy of Nationalism; The Savage Freud; An Ambiguous Journey to the City; Time Warps; Time Treks; Traditions, Tyranny and Utopias; The Romance of the State; At the Edge of Psychology; and The Tao of Cricket, He is a co-author of The Blinded Eye: 500 Years of Christopher Columbus and Creating a Nationality; editor of Science, Hegemony and Violence and The Secret Politics of Our Desires; and a co-editor of The Multiverse of Democracy and The Future of Knowledge and Culture: A Twenty-First Century Dictionary. A festschrift called Ashis Nandy: A Life in Dissent was released in April 2018 by Oxford University Press with contributors including Dipesh Chakrabarty, Amitav Ghosh, Lydia H. Liu, David L. Blaney, Tridip Suhrud, Ziadduin Sardar, Shiv Visvanthan and others.
